Questions and answers

What is Hop on Truck?

Hop on Truck is a free web app for riding along with people who stream Euro Truck Simulator 2 or American Truck Simulator live on Twitch while driving on TruckersMP, the online multiplayer. Pick a trucker on the board, hop on, and watch the stream next to a map that shows where the truck is on the game's map of Europe or America. Every zone the truck passes while you watch is uncovered on your own map.

How does the map work?

The game maps of Europe (Euro Truck Simulator 2, including ProMods) and America (American Truck Simulator) start covered in fog, divided into zones of about 5 km. Every zone the truck passes while you are watching is uncovered on your own map, together with the countries and states you drove through. It is the idea of the Fog of World app, applied to truck sim streams.

What are the medals?

Every medal has five stars, like a hotel: the first comes quickly, five stars take a long time. There are medals for countries, US states, regions and capitals, kilometres and hours on the road, ferry crossings, islands, meridians and parallels, nights and sunrises on the game clock, and busy or empty roads. Every star can be shared as a card with a frame from the stream.

Which streams can I watch?

Live Twitch streams of Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator whose streamer is driving on TruckersMP under the same name, so the truck's position is known. Streams without a position are listed too, but you can only ride along with trucks that have one.

Where can I watch Euro Truck Simulator 2 streamers with a live map?

On the Hop on Truck board (hopontruck.com) every TruckersMP streamer has a live position on the game map, with the speed on the in-game speedometer and the real-world place the road is modelled on. Click one to watch the stream with the map next to it.

Is there a Fog of World for Euro Truck Simulator 2 or American Truck Simulator?

Yes – Hop on Truck covers the game maps in fog and uncovers them as you watch live truckers drive, with separate maps for Europe and America, so you can explore the whole map without driving every road yourself.

Do I need an account?

No. Your logbook works straight away in your browser. An account – username and password with email confirmation, or Google or Twitch – keeps your map and medals on every device. One account rides along with one truck at a time.

Is it free?

Yes. Hop on Truck is free to use and runs without advertising trackers or analytics scripts.

Is it official?

No. Hop on Truck is a fan project and is not affiliated with SCS Software, TruckersMP or Twitch. Truck positions come from the public TruckersMP map; streams play in the Twitch player.

Who makes it?

LivingMeta in Leiden, the Netherlands (info@livingmeta.ai), the makers of Hop on IRL (hoponirl.com). Streamers who don't want to appear can opt out (see the privacy policy).

The medals

Every medal has five stars. These are the groups on the medals page:

Where the data comes from

Truck positions come from the public TruckersMP live map, about once a minute; streams come from Twitch. The game map is projected onto real-world coordinates with the game's own map projection, so places and countries match the game. Hop on Truck is a fan project and is not affiliated with SCS Software, TruckersMP or Twitch. For real-world live streams with GPS – truckers, boats, cyclists – see Hop on IRL.
